Gobiidae is a family of bony fish in the order Gobiiformes, one of the largest fish families comprising more than 2,000 species in more than 200 genera, sometimes referred to as the true gobies. Gobies are carnivorous, usually small in size, and found throughout the world. Especially abundant in the tropics, though primarily marine in habit, we stock only fresh fish from nearby backwaters. This fish colloquially known as Poolan in Malayalam are usually seen in brackish water and estuaries. The gobiids, like other members of the suborder, are egg-laying fishes and commonly guard their eggs, each of which is attached to a shell, rock, or other such site.
